Gavin Thomson

For the past two decades, Noordhoek resident Gavin Thomson has made a name for himself as one of South Africa’s most prolific cartoonists.

At a time, producing around 15 comic strips a week, including Mama Taxi and the popular Treknet, which is still published daily in the Cape Times, Mercury and Saturday Star.

He was also the editorial cartoonist for the People’s Post for 12 years receiving a commendation for his work at the Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards.

He has also illustrated numerous children’s story books including the ‘And Friends’ series written by Roy Harding, Jesus stories for Little Zebra Books and The Bungle in the Jungle by John Bush.

In between comic and book deadlines, he still manages to draw for pleasure too. Here is the result of those drawings.

Enjoy browsing his pictures finding all the strange and weird little details in the famous Lockdown block, Epic Wave, Circle of Surfera and circle of Rock, the long(beach) drop and Penguins of boulders beach.

We hope they bring you as much joy as they did for Gavin drawing them.
