Laura Steyn

I am a Pretoria-based artist who inherited a passion for art from my mother and grandmother. Working primarily in graphite pencil, I am to capture the exquisite grace and form of horses and ballet dancers, drawing inspiration from their disciplined athleticism and the beauty of their movement. While striving for accuracy in my portrayals, my artistic hand is always evident, ensuring the viewer appreciates the drawing as a handcrafted creation rather than a mere reproduction of a photograph.
A mechanical engineer by profession, I find that that understanding of structure and mechanics informs influence and informs my artistic approach. For me, drawing is an immersive experience, a sanctuary where I can lose myself in the creative process and translate my passion onto paper.
Dedicated to continuous improvement, I actively engage with fellow artists, believing that the pursuit of artistic growth is an ongoing journey and am greatly influenced by other artists such as Pieter van der Merwe and others.
