Virginia Clarke

Hello. My name is Virginia Clarke and I have been painting since 2007.
Painting abstracts to me is like composing a symphony of music. Interestingly enough, I see a synergy between being a Djembe player and art. If the ingredients of variety, rhythm and balance are present the artwork then takes on a unique form and speaks for itself.
My inspiration is found in the dusky blues of the sea and the warm blast of a dazzling sunlight. Using simple household items as tools, I usually combine acrylic mediums and organic material from the sea to push media beyond the realm of its possibilities. Experimenting has played a key role in exploring colour, texture and form on the canvas. I love this interplay between media and colour and how it evokes emotion in an artwork. New and diverse environments excite me as I always find a snippet of nature to bring to an artwork. The challenge is always to find the unexpected in the most ordinary surroundings.
