Karen Litson

Karen originates from a small town in Zimbabwe.

She attended boarding school in Bulawayo followed by secretarial college in Harare before marrying her husband Mike and beginning her travels.

From a very young age, the strong influences inspiring Karen’s love of painting (which particularly favour wildlife and the outdoors) were her Mother’s own love for oil painting and the time the family spent visiting the Hwange national game reserve and boating on the Zambezi River.

Mike and Karen moved from Zimbabwe to settle in South Africa in 1983 and although the majority of their time from then to date has been spent living in Cape Town, they have also had the opportunity to spend five years living in the Sultanate of Oman and a year in the United Kingdom.

Whilst in Oman Karen met multi-talented artist, mentor and friend Sheffy Tattarath, who revived her love of painting and gave her invaluable tutorship. This period also afforded Karen the opportunity to begin painting more seriously and many of her paintings still reflect scenes from Oman and the surrounding desert environment.
