Growing up in the vast open landscapes of Namibia deeply influenced my artistic vision. After graduating from Stellenbosch University, I returned to Namibia, specializing in fine porcelain ceramics, creating delicate and expressive art pieces. This period refined my sensitivity to form, texture and surface, which continues to influence my painting practice today.
Several years later I moved to Porterville, a small sleepy town in the Western Cape where I transitioned into painting, working intuitively between abstraction and realism. As a self-taught artist specializing in mixed media, I primarily use acrylics, building layered textures to evoke atmosphere, depth and emotion. My work is inspired by mountains, open space, sky and water – elements that suggest stillness, freedom and quiet contemplation. Rather than depicting specific places, I aim to capture a sense of presence and mood, inviting viewers into moments of quiet reflection.
Although painting is now my main focus, my love for ceramics remains central to my practice. Instead of working directly in clay, I create mixed media still life paintings of ceramic vessels, exploring form, balance and surface through paint and texture. Across both landscape and still life, my work seeks to capture mood rather than literal representation.
