Craig Banks
I am a self-taught South African artist based in East London, Eastern Cape, specialising primarily in charcoal, with additional experience in pencil, acrylic and watercolor.
I developed a technique called Ashes and Charcoal Portraiture, which creates custom memorial portraits by infusing the cremated ashes of loved ones directly into the artwork, offering families a meaningful tribute and comfort during their grief journey.
My work has been featured in South African Artist Magazine, YOU magazine, The Good Things Guy, and The South African. I have exhibited at the Ann Bryant Art Gallery, and my artwork is held in the South African Hall of Fame at Sun City, including an acrylic portrait of Nelson Mandela displayed at the entrance.
My goal is to share my work and inspire others to pursue their creative callings without fear of judgment, remembering that failure is simply part of the journey to success.
