Maureen Walton

Maureen Walton is an artist who was born and bred in East London, moving to Durbanville 6 years ago. Her artistic journey began when she took early retirement in 2012. A friend used to give art lessons and Maureen decided to give art lessons a try. She started with watercolours initially and later started painting with oils. For about 6 years Maureen only painted once a week for the 3 hours at her art lessons. The art lessons were mostly social occasions.
Moving to Cape Town she found lots of inspiration in nature whilst hiking. She finds endless inspiration around her. Mountains, skies, rivers, seas, flowers, people, animals, etc. She attended workshops with Elize Bezuidenhout, Sonja Frenz, Erika van Zyl, and Willie Jacobs. She attends art classes at Rust-en-Vrede Gallery in Durbanville.
She paints mainly in oils but uses other mediums like watercolours, pens, charcoal, inks, and acrylics from time to time. Her passion is landscapes, but she has also painted portraits (human and animals), flowers, still life and more.
Her style of painting has evolved over the last 12 years, from doing many small marks on the canvas, to painting roughly with the pallet knife, to fine detail with portraits, back to more loose painting. She is inspired by some of the impressionist artists of the 19th century, especially van Gogh, Monet, Degas and Renoir.
