Elitana Sibanda

African artist, Elitana Sibanda, lives in Cape Town with his family.
He carvs all of his artwork with one piece of wood.
He carves all the Big 5 animals, along with other African animals, and more. He uses a very hard wood, called “Leadwood” (Combretum Imberbe). This is extremely hard wood, difficult to work with, and termite resistant.
In his spar time, he visits his family home in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, and spends a lot of time in the bush near Kruger, observing the wildlife.
In spite of the challenges of working with hard wood, the details of his work is very fine and delicate. The form, texture and folds of skin of his animals are phenominal.
