Mark Wright

Mark Wright was born in Witbank in Mpumalanga in 1962. I was schooled in Witbank, went and did my National Service in Potchefstroom. Worked at various jobs in Witbank, Uvongo, Margate and Shelly Beach before returning to Witbank for a while. Mark married Brenda Blake and had two children, Tarryn and Christopher. A move to George followed with Mark running a busy restaurant in Wilderness. After a while I helped a good friend of mine, Dallas Fell at his Podiatrist business in town. During this time I dabbled a bit with fabric paintings. Regrettably not seriously.

Mark and Brenda relocated to Cape Town in 2014 where Brenda has her own Business in the medical research field. Mark underwent 3 operations in a space of 6 years to repair an Archilles tendon tear (snapped off) and 2 knee replacements.

In April of 2023 Brenda sent Mark to his garage to do “something”. Something turned out to be Painting/ Art. Pity she did send me to my garage 20 years ago. I am currently focusing on getting my groove. I paint seascapes, landscapes and abstract paintings. Some of my favourite painting that I have done are Lighthouses and historic buildings.

I now make and stretch my own frames and canvases. I find this very relaxing and fulfilling. I go to an Art Class on Thursdays and recently joined Kunye Art Foundation to get my Art out there.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy doing it.
