Sides have been painted too.
This is a super fun painting. The outer canvas was submitted into Constantiaberg Art Society’s competition for the them ‘Space’.
I cut a round hole in the centre, and then painted it in ochres and golds like a mock baroque frame. When I presented it, I put it in front of my own face and said, ‘Watch This Space!’. It then sat in my cupboard for ages until I decided to use it to create this very unusual piece. The nude and dog are painted on a board, and I’ve used spacers to pin it behind the canvas hole. This creates shadows which adds another surprising element.
